| HOW TO APPLY TO THE AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION PROGRAM | ||
| Applications for the 2010-2011 school year are currently being accepted now through December 1, 2010. To apply, you may either download the application from this web page, see your guidance counselor or contact the Ag Ed office at 379-9013 or bcollins@nwr7.org to obtain an application. The application is very brief and asks you to share your interest and experience in agriculture. Three letters of recommendation (non-family) must also be included with the application. The back page of the application is to be completed by a guidance counselor, and should be turned in to them by mid-November, to allow ample time for completion prior to the December 1st deadline. Applications missing any of this information will be considered incomplete and will not be accepted for review. Applications are collected from the Regional #7 areas as well as Canton, Hartland, Torrington and Winsted. They are evaluated primarily on demonstrated interest/experience in agriculture, effort in school and attendance. Letters of acceptance should arrive just before the winter recess. | ||
| Agricultural Education | |
| The agricultural education program is designed for any student who expresses an interest in any of the following areas: plant science, animal science, natural resoures, forestry, mechanics, business management, and leadership. The program is intended to prepare students for college as well as for employment immediately following high school. All courses in this program combine theory and hands-on experience to provide technical skill training and knowledge in a wide variety of careers. All courses can be linked together into a four (4) year sequence or can be taken independently. State regulations require all students to participate in a work experience program. This program should be related to agriculture and involves a time commitment outside school hours. Students must aslo participate in certain local activities of the FFA which is a national student leadership organization. Also, physical education courses may be scheduled in conjunction with agricultural labs. Any student interested in this program should contact his/her guidance counselor or the agricultural education staff for information. | |
| Because of the nature of the agricultural education program, courses offered will rotate from year to year. Level 3 agriculture education courses marked with an asterisk (*) may also be taken for Level 2 weight. Students interested in this opportunity should discuss course requirements with that teacher. | |
