Regional School District No. 7 is composed of four rural-suburban towns: Barkhamsted, Colebrook, New Hartford and Norfolk. The district, consisting of 157 square miles, is located twenty miles west of Hartford and has a population of approximately 12,700.

Northwestern Regional High School is a comprehensive public school which operated under a house plan. Opened in September, 1958, the school is accredited by the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. The school campus of 42 acres includes two 9-12 Houses. Enrollment in grades 9-12 is currently 749. Ninety five percent of the professional staff have a masters degree or equivalent.The average class size in the academic program is 20. Students in grade ten in Connecticut public schools participate in a mastery test (Connecticut Academic Performance Test)developed by the State Department of Education.

The school curriculum is both flexible and encompassing, offering numerous one-semester, as well as full-year courses at intriductory through advanced levels. The school operates on a fully rotating schedule which includes a 67 minute period for each class once every seven days, with the remaining periods being 43 minutes in duration. Classes meet five times weekly for thirty-six weeks per one credit course: 1/2 credit is given for a one-semester subject and a 1/4 credit for each year of physical education/health. Marking periods are every 9 weeks. Laboratory work is required in the college preparatory sciences as well as in German, French, and Spanish. The school also has an Agricultural Education Program.

The staff at Northwestern Middle School is comprised of dedicated professionals, many with long tenure at the school. We are complimented by a high-quality student body that works hard to achieve in the classroom and are also known for their exceptional level of community service. We participate in programs that provide Turkey Baskets for families at Thanksgiving, Holiday Angels at Christmas, and support programs for our troops. SAT’s: Wednesday, April 3rd


Northwestern will be administering the SAT this Wednesday, April 3rd during the school day to all Juniors.  Like last year, the SAT will be done electronically only on school-issued student chromebooks.  This means that all Juniors will need to bring a FULLY CHARGED CHROMEBOOK to school with them on April 3rd.  Please see the SAT practice site here and the College Board website here for more details related to the test.

  • NEW INFORMATION - Attention College-Bound Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors: The Springpath College Match Fair is being held on Monday, April 29th from 4:30PM-7PM at the Farmington Gardens in Farmington, CT.  Along with Colleges and Trade schools they will also have CHESLA and New England Board of Higher Education Tuition Break available to meet with families to discuss scholarships and financing options.   • Scholarships for Seniors: The 2024 scholarship season continues! As the 2024 applications open and become available, Mrs. Derochick (located next to the College & Career Center) will post & update them in Naviance. Please note that many have automatically re-posted from last year, and do not have this year’s information yet. Before you complete an application, make sure it is for 2024.   • Attention Sophomores and Juniors - Future Law Enforcement Youth Academy: “FBI New Haven, in partnership with the Yale University Police Department, offers a youth program called Future Law Enforcement Youth Academy (FLEYA). The program is an overnight camp at Yale University. FLEYA gives 30 Connecticut high school students between the ages of 16 and 18 an inside look at today’s FBI while simultaneously exposing them to various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and practices.  Classroom training is provided on various subjects, including: cyber technology, investigative forensics, domestic and international terrorism, civil rights (hate crimes), and more. Information on the FBI Honors Internship Program is also provided. The Highlander Basketball Camp: August 5-9, 2024


The Highlander Basketball Camp will return this year for the 34th straight summer! Registration is now open.

Camp will run from August 5th - August 9th this year at Northwestern Regional High School from 9-1 each day. We look forward to seeing familiar faces and many new ones this summer.



Vaccari Volleyball Summer Camp: August 12-15, 2024


Vaccari Volleyball will be offering a camp at Northwestern this summer!  Adam Vaccari, along with our middle school coaches, Ross Griffith & Cody McClave, several varsity volleyball players, and CT Hall of Fame coach Mary Ellen Vaccari, will be hosting a one week camp from August 12th - August 15th. 


This camp will allow younger athletes to play and develop a love for volleyball that they can carry throughout middle school, high school, and beyond. Our focus will be both on volleyball technique, knowledge, and learning to communicate and compete with other players on the court.  The camp will be located at Northwestern and run from 9:30 am-12:00 pm each day. We will have skills and drills stations along with contests and competitions culminating with scrimmages on the final day.  


The camp is open to all female student-athletes who will be entering 5th - 9th grade in the next school year.  Admission will close at 40 girls. Please see the attached flier and email with any questions.
