NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED 2016 Changemaker Award

The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and Facebook had teamed up to sponsor an award which recognized existing programs that improved the social and emotional learning of high school students.

As a result of winning this award, we had been invited to attend the 2016 InspirED Social and Emotional Learning Summit  at Facebook Headquarters in Menlo, CA.

The Summit was the next step toward the goal of fostering a nation-wide movement for emotional well-being in schools.  Northwestern’s team of three administrators and four students joined teams from nine other high school award winners from across the country for this exciting endeavor.

We worked closely with other students, educators, administrators, social and emotional learning experts, and thought leaders to empower young people to create their own positive emotional experiences and learning environments.

Our team attended workshops, panels, and discussions that provided opportunities for our students and administrators to guide improvements the social and emotional learning opportunities here at Northwestern.

Conversation topics focused on school climate, sharing best practices, creating action plans, youth leadership and project implementation.

It was an honor and a privilege to win this award for our Kindness in Motion Program!  Please follow these links to learn more about the 2016 Social and Emotional Learning Summit:  https://inspired.fb.com/

I am so proud of all of the students who participated in our program.  I am grateful to our administrators, staff members, community members, Board of Education members and parents who supported these students with their projects.

I look forward to the 2022 Kindness in Motion Program!

Sincerely,

Judy Palmer, Superintendent of Schools
