COMMUNITY
Regional School District No. 7 is composed of four rural-suburban towns: Barkhamsted, Colebrook, New Hartford and Norfolk. The district, consisting of 157 square miles, is located twenty miles west of Hartford and has a population of approximately 12,700.
NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL
Northwestern Regional High School is a comprehensive public school which operated under a house plan. Opened in September, 1958, the school is accredited by the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. The school campus of 42 acres includes two 9-12 Houses. Enrollment in grades 9-12 is currently 749. Ninety five percent of the professional staff have a masters degree or equivalent.The average class size in the academic program is 20. Students in grade ten in Connecticut public schools participate in a mastery test (Connecticut Academic Performance Test)developed by the State Department of Education.
PROGRAM & OFFERINGS
The school curriculum is both flexible and encompassing, offering numerous one-semester, as well as full-year courses at intriductory through advanced levels. The school operates on a fully rotating schedule which includes a 67 minute period for each class once every seven days, with the remaining periods being 43 minutes in duration. Classes meet five times weekly for thirty-six weeks per one credit course: 1/2 credit is given for a one-semester subject and a 1/4 credit for each year of physical education/health. Marking periods are every 9 weeks. Laboratory work is required in the college preparatory sciences as well as in German, French, and Spanish. The school also has an Agricultural Education Program.

The staff at Northwestern Middle School is comprised of dedicated professionals, many with long tenure at the school. We are complimented by a high-quality student body that works hard to achieve in the classroom and are also known for their exceptional level of community service. We participate in programs that provide Turkey Baskets for families at Thanksgiving, Holiday Angels at Christmas, and support programs for our troops. Northwestern Middle School is dedicated to an outstanding academic and student activity program. Please stop in for one of our programs or call us with any questions you may have.

Early Release: Friday, February 17th
This is just a reminder that tomorrow (Friday, February 17th) is an early release day with school beginning at 7:34 and ending at 12:05.
There is no school next Monday and Tuesday, February 20th and 21st (February break).

ATTENTION SENIORS:
- SENIORS APPLYING TO NORTHWESTERN CT COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Representatives from Northwestern CT Community College will be visiting us next Wednesday, February 22nd. They will be providing information about the Team Success Program, the Peer 2 Peer mentoring program, and admissions/applications. The presentation will start at 10:45 in the Little Theater. Any senior who is considering attending NCCC next year is invited to attend. This will also be a great time to complete the application. Please bring your charged chromebook. See your school counselor to sign up or to ask any questions.
- SCHOLARSHIPS! Seniors - Click on the following link to access our most updated local scholarship opportunities: Scholarship List 2023. ATTENTION JUNIORS/SENIORS:
Are you thinking about going into one of the many medical professions or simply interested in becoming an EMT? Here are some great, local, EMT opportunities (click on links for more information):
- Northwestern CT Community College EMT Course - NCCC is offering an EMT course starting on February 22nd - May 20th, 2023. This course qualifies for 8 college credits after successful completion. Deadline to apply is prior to the January 9th orientation. First come, first serve. Cost includes the CT & National Exam Fees: $200; the Book: $179.99 for Looseleaf Text with MyBrady, or $105 for E-Text with MyBrady; and the cost for the BLS CPR: $10. - Winsted Ambulance EMT Course - Anyone 16 or older can take the class with a fee of $750. Those that are 18 (or soon to be 18) and interested in joining the ambulance as a volunteer could get the class for free! Dates are May 16th-July 22nd, 2023. Yearbook News
Attention Senior Parents and Guardians: Graduation will be upon us before too long! You may now create a one quarter page ad for your senior for placement in the 2023 Yearbook! These ads are a great way to congratulate your senior student! Ads are $50 each and may be purchased while space remains available but must be created and submitted no later than March 1.
Your ad can be created by utilizing the link on the school website under HS Resources for Yearbook Orders. You will notice an option to create a personal ad at the bottom of the page. Simply follow the prompts as directed to create your ad or to upload a finished ad. Payment is made online at the time of ad creation. Again, ads are due no later than March 1, 2023. Kindness in Motion Project: Earthquake in Turkey
One of our high school students (Ella Gannon) will be collecting donations of blankets and personal hygiene items as part of her Kindness in Motion project. This drive will directly benefit the victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Turkey. All donations are being collected to support a drive being held at Winchester Police Department. The deadline for school donations is February 24th and boxes will be located throughout the school.
