COMMUNITY
Regional School District No. 7 is composed of four rural-suburban towns: Barkhamsted, Colebrook, New Hartford and Norfolk. The district, consisting of 157 square miles, is located twenty miles west of Hartford and has a population of approximately 12,700.

NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL
Northwestern Regional High School is a comprehensive public school which operated under a house plan. Opened in September, 1958, the school is accredited by the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. The school campus of 42 acres includes two 9-12 Houses. Enrollment in grades 9-12 is currently 749. Ninety five percent of the professional staff have a masters degree or equivalent.The average class size in the academic program is 20. Students in grade ten in Connecticut public schools participate in a mastery test (Connecticut Academic Performance Test)developed by the State Department of Education.

PROGRAM & OFFERINGS
The school curriculum is both flexible and encompassing, offering numerous one-semester, as well as full-year courses at intriductory through advanced levels. The school operates on a fully rotating schedule which includes a 67 minute period for each class once every seven days, with the remaining periods being 43 minutes in duration. Classes meet five times weekly for thirty-six weeks per one credit course: 1/2 credit is given for a one-semester subject and a 1/4 credit for each year of physical education/health. Marking periods are every 9 weeks. Laboratory work is required in the college preparatory sciences as well as in German, French, and Spanish. The school also has an Agricultural Education Program.

NORTHWESTERN MIDDLE SCHOOL
The staff at Northwestern Middle School is comprised of dedicated professionals, many with long tenure at the school. We are complimented by a high-quality student body that works hard to achieve in the classroom and are also known for their exceptional level of community service. We participate in programs that provide Turkey Baskets for families at Thanksgiving, Holiday Angels at Christmas, and support programs for our troops. Northwestern Middle School is dedicated to an outstanding academic and student activity program. Please stop in for one of our programs or call us with any questions you may have.

NWR7 Project Graduation Silent Auction

 

Project Graduation is the alcohol/substance free party held after graduation for all members of the graduating class.  Our Silent Auction has always been the most successful Project Graduation fundraiser, and it will be held on Saturday, October 23rd from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the NWR7 gymnasium.  Masks are required at the Silent Auction.    

 

In order to make this event a success, we need your support through donations and attendance! Any donation is great: baby baskets, toys, movie baskets, items for college dormitories, tickets to various events, baked goods, tools, holiday decorations, handcrafted items, gift cards...and the list goes on and on!   There is no such thing as a bad donation.  There is always something for everyone! 

 

Donations may be dropped off in the Main Office no later than Friday, October 22nd.  Please remember to label your donation with your name, phone number and the approximate value of your item.  If you have any questions, or would like to donate a gift card via email, please contact Mrs. Donna Williams at (860)379-7132 or dwilliams@nwr7.org.

  • College Application Deadlines: The deadline to turn in your purple transcript request form to your school counselor is (at least) 2 weeks (10 school days - holidays and weekends do not count) prior to the college application deadline.  If you have a November 1st deadline please turn your form in as soon as possible as the deadline has passed.  Please follow the following table for turning in your transcript request forms:

Athletic Department News

 

The High School fall sports season is coming to a rapid close and the winter season will follow. Family ID is open to register your child for any of the following High School sports. Directions are below. Unified Sports, Wrestling, Swimming and Diving, Indoor Track, Boys Ice Hockey with Housatonic, Girls Ice Hockey with Suffield, Cheer, Boys Basketball and Girls Basketball. Preseason meetings will be announced by the coaches. Early registration on Family ID will assure your child is ready to go for the first day of practice. Wrestling, Girls Basketball and Ice Hockey will start November 29th. and all other winter sports will start December 2nd.

A parent/guardian should register by clicking on this link:

Follow these steps:

 

  • To find your program, click on the link provided by the Organization above and select the registration form under the word Programs. 
  • Next click on the green Register Now button and scroll, if necessary, to the Sign Up/Log in green buttons.  If this is your first time using FamilyID, click Sign Up.  Click Log In, if you already have a FamilyID account.
  • Sign Up for your secure FamilyID account by entering the account owner First and Last names (parent/guardian), E-mail address and password.  Select the agreement to the FamilyID Terms of Service.  Click Sign Up.
  • You will receive an email with a link to activate your new account.  (If you don’t see the email, check your e-mail filters (spam, junk, etc.). 
  • Click on the link in your activation e-mail, which will log you in to FamilyID.com
  • Once in the registration form, complete the information requested.  All fields with a red* are required to have an answer. 
  • Click the Save & Continue button when your form is complete. 
  • Review your registration summary.
  • Click the green Submit button.  After selecting ‘Submit’, the registration will be complete.  You will receive a completion email from FamilyID confirming your registration.

At any time, you may log in at www.familyid.com to update your information and to check your registration(s).  To view a completed registration, select the ‘Registration’ tab on the blue bar.

If you have not yet scheduled your senior portrait photo appointment, you must schedule now! There are final appointment slots available for Friday, November 12, 2021. Please go to www.PrestigePortraits.com, enter your appointment code and schedule your appointment. These photos must be taken in order for your photo to appear in the 2022 Yearbook.

Also, please submit your senior candid photos (up to 8 can be accepted) and your written statement. Photographs and written statements must be in good taste and original. PSAT’s: Wednesday, October 13th

 

All 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will have the opportunity to take the PSAT (practice SAT) on Wednesday, October 13th, during the regular school day.  

9th grade students will be taking the digital PSAT so they will NEED to bring their chromebooks to school fully charged on PSAT day!  10th and 11th grade students will take the traditional paper tests.

Seniors will be participating in post-high school workshops during the testing and then will go to regularly scheduled classes once the testing is completed.

GNH Football Fundraiser

 

The Gilbert-Northwestern-Housatonic Football Team kicked off a fundraiser last week!  They are selling some awesome rubs, herbs, spices, dessert toppings, and more with the Nutmeg Spice Company!  The fundraiser sale runs through Monday, October 11th.  Orders will be ready after the week of October 18th.

Lunch Information

 

At NWR7, we offer five components for each lunch meal.  For a full lunch meal, please choose all five.  The minimum requirement for a free reimbursable lunch meal includes at least three components,  one of which must be a fruit or vegetable.
